Relief From Hot Flashes

So many women suffer from hot flashes. Certain herbs have been
used over the centuries for support and balance for this
situation.

Throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries herbal therapy was
very much accepted. Black cohosh was listed in the United States
Pharmacopoeia, the nation’s official drug reference book, from
1820 to 1926.

Why wouldn’t you see that listed there now days? Around World
War II, drug manufacturers began focusing almost exclusively on
synthetic drugs that, unlike herbs, could be patented and and so
would provide big profits. So research into herbals stopped, and
most herbal remedies were dropped by the Doctors.

However, studies were still done overseas. A 1985
pharmacological study conducted in Germany reported that Black
Cohosh contained an isoflavone, a type of phytoestrogen, or
plant estrogen.

Other studies have failed to find the isoflavone compound. They
do suggest that Black Cohosh acts on the Hypothalmus, which is
the gland in the head regulating hormones and body temperature.

What ever the case may be, Black Cohosh has worked for women
world wide.

Dong Quai according to herbalist Feather Jones increases the
number of binding sites for extrogen-sensitive tissues. She says
it will not overstimulate extrogen because it will helps shut
off estrogen production when it becomes excessive. So it acts as
an estrogen balancer.

Chaste Tree, also called Vitex is also useful. It contains
phytoestrogens which mimic the chemistry of estrogen. It also
stimulates progesterone production. It helps with the crampy,
spotty periods.

Licorice root helps to support the adrenals by improving
cortisol production. This is needed when the adrenals are
involved in the problem, which is true with many women. I would
not suggest that you take Licorice Rood over a month at a time
though.

You can find these as single herbs or in compounds at the health
food store. I happen to use Herb Pharm brand tinctures, because
they are high quality. I have also found a cream to rub on that
contains Dong Quai, Licorice and Black Cohosh at the health food
store.

Taking phytoestrogens for a long time without testing where your
hormone levels are could cause problems. So I suggest that you
get a test periodically of where your hormone levels are.
Several companies online offer Hormone Saliva Testing. You can
do a search online for that.

If self treating does not work after a few months, make sure to
consult with a health practitoner or holistic M.D. They may have
further evaluations or suggestions for you, which will include
testing where your hormone levels.

You can do something about those hot flashes! Don’t be miserable
any longer. Get started in turning this around and you will feel
much better in just a few weeks.

I’m going to talk to you about a topic that, when closely looked
at, actually has a lot to do with living a prosperous, wealthy
life.

Since this is the time of year when many of us eat in addition and feel
guilty later, here is some inspiring info from the November
issue of National Geographic.

“The Secrets of Living Longer” focused on several regions where
people live significantly longer and healthier lives. These
residents produce a high rate of centenarians. Their disease
rate is a fraction of what people in other parts of the world
suffer and die from. Most importantly they enjoy increased healthy
years of life.

A long healthy life is no accident. Just like anything else, it
takes a commitment born out of self-discovery and wisdom.

Here are the 10 keys to success:

1. Okinawans believe in “Ikigai”, meaning “that which makes
one’s life worth living.” A strong sense of purpose acts as a
buffer against stress and diseases. Find the purpose of your
life.

2. A lean diet is also a factor. A typical meal in Okinawa,
Japan consists of a heaping plate of vegetables, tofu, miso
soup, and a little fish or meat. It has fewer calories and many
heavier healthy nutrients than a small hamburger.

3. The leading ingredient in miso soup are sea vegetables. Most
non-organic food is irradiated. Irradiated food has no enzymes,
which are vital for proper digestion. According to research done
by Yukio Tanaka at McGill University, sodium alginate, an
ingredient richly found in sea vegetables, can reduce the deadly
effects of toxic strontium-90 by up to 80%. The way these sea
veggies work is that any radioactive element is transformed and
excreted out of your body as a harmless salt. Cesium-137 is incomparable
chelated by the blue-green family of sea veggies. Just go and
get a variety of these from your health food store.

4. Another key factor to longevity is that people in these
regions grow much of their own food. One scientist from the
University of Minnesota called these kept by Okinawan
centenarians “cabinets of preventative medicine.” They included

garlic, scallions, cabbage, turmeric and tomatoes. All contain
compounds that block cancers from starting.”

Find a physical exercise that stimulates your mind and

8. Find a space each day for stillness and contemplation. I
practice magnetic Qi Gong everyday. You can meditate, practice
Yoga (which combines exercise with meditation), sunbathe or just
lie down quietly.

9. Read about others who live a life of health and bounty. This
inspires and motivates in a grand way. Examples of other
people’s health and wealth allow us to visualize that a
prosperous is a reality.

Remember, “today is the tomorrow you hoped for yesterday.” Now
is the only time any action can take place. If you don’t begin
now, you will never begin.

Success on any level of being occurs through the hourglass
effect. Little by little, grain by grain, your habits of winning
accumulate. Soon, your life is filled with fulfillment and
richness.

WHAT IS SPELT?

Spelt is one of the oldest grains known to mankind. Grown as far
back as 5000 BC, the spelt grain has hardly changed from that
time until today. In fact, spelt was even referred to in the
Bible, mentioned in both Exodus 9:32 and Ezekiel 4:9.

While still common in many parts of the world, including Europe,
spelt lost popularity in America as commercial growers looked
for higher yield crops to provide for mass production.

HOW SPELT COMPARES TO WHEAT

Unlike the wheat most Americans have come to know, spelt has not

lost its nutritious value and became easy targets to pests

include pasta, hot or cold cereals, cookies, crackers, bread,
muffins, cakes and pancake mixes.

ADAPTING RECIPES FOR SPELT GRAIN

When baking with spelt you will need to adapt the recipe to
account for the difference between spelt and traditional wheat.
Increasing the amount of flour or decreasing the amount of
liquids will enable you to use spelt in most recipes asking for
wheat.

Spelt needs to be soaked overnight before cooking. Cover with
water and bring to a boil. Let it simmer in a covered pot for an
hour.

Spelt has many features that make it stand out as the
ecologically and nutritionally superior grain available. The
tough husk means it can be grown without pesticides and
insecticides and helps preserve freshness when stored. Its high
nutritional value can’t be compared to hybrid wheat currently
